TrustedHousesitters in Singapur

As a TrustedHousesitter in Singapore

From our application to acceptance

Singapore – a city known for its breathtaking skyline, its multicultural flair and unfortunately also for its high cost of living. When we learnt that we had the opportunity to live in this fascinating city as a TrustedHousesitter, we were thrilled. Not only because it meant we could explore the city without spending a fortune, but also because we got to look after a cat called Pixie – and we love cats!

Before we got our acceptance letter, we had to be quick and apply to the couple via the app. Four other applicants soon replied to their enquiry and then the wait began for us in Bali.
We quickly received a reply with a request to get to know each other via teams. We were very excited as this would also be our first sit, but our excitement quickly disappeared when we met the owner.

After a very pleasant conversation, she accepted us straight away and we could hardly believe our luck, despite having a new profile and no reviews, we got the chance and definitely wanted to take it.

When we arrived at the airport in Singapore, we followed the couple’s exact description and were finally at the front door. The owner could see us through the window and opened the door for us with a smile. After she had shown us the room we had made, we got to know her and Pixie personally.

The next day she would be flying to Sri Lanka on holiday with her husband and thanks to the guide sent to us in advance about the house and Pixie, we only had to clarify the last few questions and were shown everything. In the evening we got to know her husband and enjoyed the first evening.

The next morning we said goodbye to both of them and now it was as if we were temporary homeowners in Singapore. At first it felt very strange to be allowed to use the entire flat, including the kitchen, washing machine, TV and even the Netflix account, but it soon settled down. After a very pleasant conversation, she accepted us straight away and we could hardly believe our luck, despite having a new profile and no reviews, we got the chance and definitely wanted to take it.

A day as a TrustedHousesitter in Singapore with a cat called Pixie

A relaxed morning with our new flatmate

The day began for us in a cosy flat high above the streets of Singapore. We prepared our own breakfast in peace and quiet while our furry flatmate watched curiously and stroked our legs. It was nice to wake up in a home instead of an anonymous hotel room – it made the start of the day much more pleasant.

Once we had fortified ourselves, it was time for the morning ritual: feeding, cuddles and a little playtime with the cat. It was amazing how quickly we developed a routine and settled into our new surroundings. The cat was friendly, playful and seemed to enjoy the attention we gave her. Our routine also included cleaning the litter tray, watering the plants and hoovering the flat.

Exploring the city in the morning

After the morning’s cat fun, we set off to explore the neighbourhood. Singapore is an incredibly diverse city and there was so much to discover. We decided to take a walk through Little India. This is an area with lots of Indian buildings, food, shops and, of course, people.

There were brightly coloured houses and beautiful temples everywhere, which we were even allowed to visit free of charge. At the entrance there was often appropriate and suitable clothing for visitors like us so that we could adhere to the dress code. There we saw how people prayed and what offerings were made to their gods.

Lunch break: cheap and tasty

Back at the flat, we treated ourselves to a lunch break. We often cooked our own meals – another advantage of housesitting, as it allowed us to save money and still eat well. Simple dishes with fresh ingredients from the nearby local supermarket tasted twice as good when you could enjoy them in familiar surroundings.

Of course, we also made sure to try out local restaurants from time to time. Singapore is a paradise for foodies, and there are plenty of opportunities to eat delicious food on a budget. The numerous hawker centres in particular offer a variety of different dishes for little money. We found the hawker centre in Little India particularly delicious.

An afternoon full of exploring: Marina Bay and Supertree Grove

After a relaxing lunch break, we set off in the afternoon to explore one of Singapore’s most famous neighbourhoods: Marina Bay. This area is famous for the iconic Marina Bay Sands Hotel, which dominates the city’s skyline with its unique design. We could see the three towers from afar, crowned by the impressive Sky Park platform with pool. To us, the building looked like a ship resting in the sky and we wondered how such a thing could be built and still hold up.

We strolled along the Marina Bay Promenade, admired the modern architecture and were enchanted by the cosmopolitan flair of the city. The combination of skyscrapers, glittering water and manicured green spaces made the walk a special experience. The sun was slowly setting and we were there at the right time, as the I Light Festival was taking place and the light was bringing works of art to life.

In the distance, we listened to live music from the Gastro Beats Festival, which was also taking place at the same time, where we grabbed something to eat.

Our route finally led us to the famous Supertree Grove in Gardens by the Bay. These futuristic trees are not only impressive during the day, but only reveal their true splendour after dark. As the sun went down, we waited eagerly for the night-time light and music show known as “Garden Rhapsody”. The gigantic supertrees lit up in bright colours, accompanied by perfectly coordinated music that transported us to another world. It was an unforgettable moment that showed us once again how unique and fascinating Singapore is. As big Disney fans, we were very happy to see the special performance of “Everything is upside down 2” and the subsequent Aurora Borealis show, which imitates the Northern Lights through light and fog.

After an afternoon of exploration and awe-inspiring experiences, we finally returned to our flat by train, where our furry flatmate was already waiting for us. It was reassuring to know that at the end of the day we would return to a cosy home where a cat was waiting for us, happy to have our company. This feeling of safety and security was one of the biggest benefits of housesitting.

The evening: a peaceful finale

Pixie

In the evening, we ended the day in the flat. We cooked ourselves dinner, made ourselves comfortable on the sofa and watched a film while the cat purred peacefully next to us. It was the perfect end to a day that was both relaxing and productive.

Our TrustedHousesitter experience in Singapore

Looking back, our time as a TrustedHousesitter in Singapore was one of the best experiences of our trip. We had the opportunity to explore one of the most expensive cities in the world without breaking our budget. But the best part was the company of our four-legged flatmate, who made our stay even more special. Every evening and morning we enjoyed feeding and playing together. We gave the hospitable owners a daily update in the form of photos or videos about Pixie and were also very happy when they came back from their holiday.

More than happy and grateful to have had such a great start as sitters we told each other about our time and we were even allowed to stay an extra night for our bus to Malaysia. After the 9 days it was also strange to be travelling again, as we felt very welcome and that we had arrived. So we are very happy to still be in contact with Pixie’s owners months later.Looking back, our time as a TrustedHousesitter in Singapore was one of the best experiences of our trip. Even though we will miss Pixie and our time in Singapore, we are happy to have already received the next commitment for a 2-week sit in Kuala Lumpur for 2 cats this time.
